Iridium® Satellite Tracking and Communications System
SKYTRAC’s Sky Connect™ is a complete Iridium® satellite tracking and communications system that enables operators to actively manage their fleets. The system combines worldwide aircraft tracking, two-way text messaging, and always-available voice communications into a single solution that supports demanding mission operations. Using the Iridium satellite network, Sky Connect enables any equipped aircraft in the world to be tracked in near real time. Secure, encrypted GPS-based position reports are transmitted at automated intervals to authorized control centers, providing operators with fleet visibility and situational awareness.
SKY CONNECT™ CAPABILITIES
Worldwide Aircraft Tracking
Sky Connect enables worldwide near real-time tracking of aircraft status, three-dimensional location, flight route, and estimated time of arrival using the Iridium satellite network. Encrypted GPS-based position reports are sent automatically using secure data protocols.
Total Situational Awareness
Sky Connect includes a web-based mapping application that displays aircraft location, GPS flight plans, crew status, and weather overlays on topographical maps. Text messages from the aircraft are displayed directly on the mapping screen, allowing dispatchers to stay organized and manage fleets effectively.
Flight Data Monitoring
Operators can view aircraft location, flight plans, and messages through a web-based mapping interface in real time. Additionally, Sky Connect also provides Last Position Vector (LPV) reporting after power loss and supports maintenance insight through flight data monitoring.
Talk and Text Communications
Sky Connect supports worldwide two-way text messaging designed for crews with busy workloads. Pilots and dispatchers can communicate simple messages quickly using pre-stored messages with data fields and a full telephone keypad. Messages sent to the aircraft are displayed immediately, and all messages received during flight can be recalled for reference.
Mission Management and System Functionality
Sky Connect features a lightweight transceiver line replaceable unit (LRU) with shared GPS and Iridium antenna signaling, dual ARINC 429 interfaces, web-based and over-the-air configuration, high-resolution data recording, and last position reporting after power loss. The system is designed to operate in extreme environments down to -55°C.
Truly Global Voice Communications
Sky Connect provides worldwide, always-available voice telephone service using the Iridium satellite network. When equipped with the MMU-II™, the system supports a headset-level voice interface tied into the aircraft audio panel and enables programmed dialing with stored phone numbers. Voice communications can operate concurrently with tracking and messaging services without interruption.
