Impact Initiative: SKYTRAC Lends Local Food Bank a Hand During the Holidays

While the holidays are a season of cheer and celebration, they are also a time for giving back. As a business with deep roots in the Okanagan region going back to 1986, SKYTRAC is not only proud to support the local Okanagan community, but also considers it a responsibility. Every year, SKYTRAC team members from across the company volunteer their time and efforts at the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB).

The COFB aims to create a healthy and hunger-free community by providing nutritious foods to those in need by creating partnerships and alliances to effectively collect and distribute foods. The COFB is responsible for several initiatives to support local families, children, seniors and households in need. The COFB has also been providing emergency food support to those affected by the recent floods in British Columbia

In addition, the COFB has also been extremely responsive to the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic. While SKYTRAC continues to persevere through the pandemic, the closure of local businesses and the loss of livelihoods has nonetheless been challenging for many individuals and families. During this time of uncertainty, the COFB supports those impacted so that they do not have to choose between paying their bills and purchasing food.

These impactful initiatives spearheaded by the COFB are made possible through the support of volunteers. With only 150 volunteers, the COFB Kelowna location serves between 2,500 to 3,500 people every month, and even more during the holiday season.

During the holidays, SKYTRAC team members step away from their desks and busy work schedules to lend a hand at the COFB. They provide any support required whether that is sorting perishable foods from non-perishables, administrative support, or parking lot assistance.

“We consider it our responsibility to contribute to the well-being the community we live, work, and play in,” mentions Reuben Mann, Head of Marketing, SKYTRAC. “While SKYTRAC’s global reach continues to grow, we aim to be leaders not only in our industry but also in our local community,” concludes Mann.

We encourage you to support the Central Okanagan Food Bank and other local charitable organizations by either volunteering or donating so that together we can build a stronger and more connected community.

About the Okanagan Food Bank

On July 1, 2015 the Westside Community Food Bank and Kelowna Community Food Bank joined forces to become the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank. They are a non-profit, charitable organization committed to providing healthy, nutritious food to those who need it most.

They rely on the generosity of the community to support the work they do through the donation of food, funds and time. These donations come from individuals, families, organizations, community groups as well as various fundraising/food-raising efforts.
