DSAT-300 is SkyTrac’s next generation fully portable transceiver for flight following and text messaging. The DSAT-300 contains a data-only Iridium transceiver, a built-in Global Positioning System (GPS), and a long-life battery that transmits data for 60+ hours (depending on ambient temperature/condition and reporting interval).  With three antenna configuration options, DSAT-300 is the most flexible portable flight following solution available in the market.  Users have the choice of using a GPS/Iridium dual antenna integrated into the hardware, a TSOd GPS/Iridium dual antenna installed on the exterior of the aircraft, or portable Velcro GPS and Iridium antennas.  The DSAT-300 is also suitable for marine and land applications.

Integrated Antenna Option

The DSAT-300 is available with an integrated GPS/Iridium Combo antenna.  To assure reliable connectivity, place the DSAT-300 with the integrated antenna in a window with a clear view of the sky, and begin reporting.


Fixed Antenna Option

SkyTrac's fixed Iridium/GPS combo antenna mounted to the exterior of the aircraft can also be used with the DSAT-300.  This antenna is qualified to Technical Standard Order (TSO) and therefore can be installed without a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC).


Portable Antenna Option

SkyTrac also offers a portable antenna option with the DSAT-300. With this option, a GPS antenna and an Iridium antenna are provided (each with 10 feet of coaxial cable included) and must be placed within the aircraft so that both have a clear view of the sky. The success of this arrangement will depend on the geometry of the aircraft and, in particular, the size, shape and location of window surfaces where the antennas can be placed.


SkyTrac Messenger

STS Messenger is a user interface program that runs on a Personal Data Assistant (PDA) or similar handheld device and allows users to send and receive emails/text messages by using the capabilities of the DSAT-300.  To accomplish this, the PDA is connected to the DSAT-300 using a blue tooth connection.  

DSAT-300 meets and exceeds typical Automatic Flight Following (AFF) standards worldwide. DSAT-300 data is transmitted and processed by the Iridium and SkyTrac networks, which offer the highest levels of reliability, security and customer support. With DSAT, this level of portability is offered in an "avionics grade" package with accompanying levels of reliability and durability that are well beyond consumer grade electronics.
